Sorry this post is rather delayed…I just don’t seem to of had any time lately!
On 21st of July I ran the Birmingham Race for Life. I love the Race for Life events, they are for such a great cause and there is always such a wonderful atmosphere at the events. This one was a 5K event and I was really hoping for a good time.
You get a sign for your back on which you write ‘I race for life for…’. Usually I write for everyone, as there as are many people affected by cancer in one way or another. This year it meant even more to me.
My dad passed away in September. We didn’t know he had cancer until it was way too late. So this year I could relate to everyone else who has lost someone they love to cancer. I’m not an overly emotive person so my sign simply said ‘DAD’.
I suspect it may have been the emotion on the day, but something motivated me to run faster than I ever have before and I completed the course in 24 mins and 55 seconds!
(You don’t get an accurate time at a Race for Life, but I used the nike+ on my iPod for my time!)
I was amazed. I never go that quick on my normal runs!
It was at Cannon Hill park which is the same place they do the Birmingham ParkRun so it has made me think that I want to take part in one of these soon!
