Favourite Tradition – #BEDM

Topic: We all make up traditions that carry over year after year. What is your favourite tradition? Big or small, share the details and why you enjoy it.

When I think of traditions I instantly think of Christmas traditions as I knew every family has lots of their own Christmas traditions. So the same as others and some unique to that particular family. So my Blog Every Day in May post today is about Christmas traditions!

We have owned our house nearly 2 years now and the first Christmas in the house was very strange. It was lovely sharing presents just between us on Christmas morning but the day itself and the days around it seemed stressful. We were trying to do all of the usual Christmas activities which were traditions for each of our families and there was so much to fit in. We actually didn’t have Christmas dinner together!

But last Christmas we wanted to make it more about us. Months before Christmas I even decided I would cook Christmas dinner and it would be just us 2 and Paul’s dad. However, when my dad passed away, me, my mom and my sisters decided we wanted to all still have Christmas dinner together. There was also my eldest sisters husband, her daughter and another sisters fiancé so it was decided anymore may be a bit too much and we didn’t want mom getting to stressed that day. It was always dad who cooked Christmas dinner so we didn’t want the emotions of taking over the role getting to any of us.

Anyway long story short, me and Paul had Christmas dinner apart again! And because of this we really wanted to create the first of our own Christmas traditions…so we decided we needed a Christmas Eve tradition which would be just ours…and as it was Christmas this obviously included food! And so our new Christmas Eve tradition dinner is slow cooked beef rolls with stuffing and gravy!!

It’s not complicated but its perfect winter comfort food which we can have each I year and its special to us!

This Christmas I really will make dinner at our house but I am sure we won’t get many more Christmas traditions until we have a family of our own to make them with!!

I love Christmas so much and would love to know what Christmas traditions you have, so please share below!

Mmm that Christmas eve food looks tasty! Such a fun tradition! We don’t have any really obvious traditions I can think of – but we always go to church and have to wait until after lunch until we can open our presents. Not easy I can tell you!

I actually forgot to say that was a random pic of slow cooked beef…but ours looks very similar I promise! And it’s lovely!! Ooo how do you do that? Our presents seem to last all day as youngest more every relative we visit, but I’ve always opened some first thing! :)
