Topic: What is the worst advice you have ever received?
I am beginning to think I just don’t listen to advice. I struggled to think of something for my Best Advice post and I can’t think of anything really for this one either!
I began thinking about anything I may have been advised to do which either changed my life for the worse…or would have if I had listened.
When I was in my 1st year of uni I really hated my part-time job at the local motorway service station. I met a girl at uni who worked at the cinema not far from uni and said they were looking for new staff. At the time my then boyfriend was away at uni, and I had it quite well organised with work so my 2 shifts a week were on my days off from uni and I still had the weekend free to visit my boyfriend…but I really hated that job! So I decided to apply for the job at the cinema!
I remember both my Aunt and the boyfriend told me I should stick with the job I had, because I had it good with the shift plan and it was a little bit better money.
I got the job at the cinema and I took it.
That is where I met 2 of my best friends
It was so much fun! Great nights out with the other staff and I got to watch films for free!
I got a discount on popcorn and sweets!
I broke up with that boyfriend anyway.
And best of all, on my very first shift at the cinema I was in the staff room on my break at the same time as a guy who worked on the box office. Straight away he started talking to me and we got on really well. He became one of my best friends and introduced me to loads of other people working there. He was called Paul and four years later our relationship changed from friendship to love and we have now been a couple for nearly 4 years. We own our house and have lots of life plans together. I love him with all my heart…
…and if I had listened to the advice I was given about that silly part time job, I would never have met him.
