Last weekend me and my little family packed up the car and went to visit Paul’s Mom and her partner in Melton Mowbray. It’s always lovely to go and visit them and it’s the second time we have been with Lara and she really makes family time extra fun!
I’m sure all parents will relate when I say that going away with kids is VERY different to going away without them. There is just so much stuff! Loads of clothes, blankets, coats, bottles, milk, food, nappies, wipes, changing mat, travel cot and mattress, pushchair…the list goes on!
The holiday starts with the packing and then trying to strategically load everything into the car, tetris style, to make sure it all fits…it can be tricky. Then it’s a case timing the journey to try and co-inside with nap time so that baby will sleep peacefully for (fingers crossed) the whole journey so there will be no moaning and hopefully after feeding, again to try and avoid moaning.
We were very lucky and Lara did sleep for all but the last 10 minutes of the journey. Woohoo!
And so the weekend was under-way. We spent the next few days shopping, visiting Leicester cathedral and the tomb of Richard 3rd, watching the grand national, eating (too much – see my slippery slope post!), a tiny bit of running (see Strava post) and playing trivial pursuit on the Wii.
It was an absolutely great, relaxing weekend and a perfect way to get in lots of family time before I go back to work!
